The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom
This book was about one of the first men on Earth, a man who fell in love with a girl, a man who invented the first measurements of time. He has been condemned to keep track of time in a cave, forever, answering the calls of humans who want more time and less time.
Sarah Lemon is one of those calling for less time. She wants time to become beautiful for a cool new kid who asked her out on a date, She wants more time to spend with him, and more time to be with him, even though he might one day break her heart one day. However, she is constantly begging for less time so her date will approach faster, and even less time for her life.
Victor Delamore is one of those people who needs more time. He is a rich man with all the luxuries of life. When he finds out he is dying of cancer, he prays for more time. This situation might humble him, and open his heart to his wife Gracie, who he has closed off for so long.
Father Time must help both of them in order to escape his sentence that he has had for so long, and maybe come home to the girl he has always loved.A bit from Goodreads:
In this fable, the first man on earth to count the hours becomes Father Time. The inventor of the world's first clock is punished for trying to measure God's greatest gift. He is banished to a cave for centuries and forced to listen to the voices of all who come after him seeking more days, more years. Eventually, with his soul nearly broken, Father Time is granted his freedom, along with a magical hourglass and a mission: a chance to redeem himself by teaching two earthly people the true meaning of time.
He returns to our world--now dominated by the hour-counting he so innocently began--and commences a journey with two unlikely partners: one a teenage girl who is about to give up on life, the other a wealthy old businessman who wants to live forever. To save himself, he must save them both. And stop the world to do so.
This book was given to me by my uncle for Christmas, and it was a really good present! I liked the idea in general, but some of it was confusing and could have used more character development. There are some really sad parts in this book, and overall it was about a seven out of ten. It tells the story of love and heartbreak, greed and humbling, and shows us how two individuals can act when they have very little time left. This is a timeless, amazing book. Seven out of ten.
