Alenna has grown up as an orphan in the UNA ever since her parents were taken when she was ten years old. The UNA gives you a test when you turn sixteen, a test to see if you are a potential threat to society. If you fail the test, you are sent to the Wheel, an island with no escape and a life expectancy of two years.
On a field trip, Alenna sees some footage of the Wheel, and is shocked to see a good looking boy staring back at her, unlike the mad, half-crazy thugs she has always expected to see. In fact, he looks completely…. Normal. Then, when Alenna takes her test and fails, she is sent to the Wheel. She is constantly on her feet and narrowly avoiding Death, between fighting the tribes and dodging feelers, things that pop out of the sky and snatch some of the kids, who are never seen again.
Why was Alenna sent to the Wheel? Why were her parents really taken, and are they alive? And can she defy the UNA and stay alive as long as she can? Find out in this story of survival, mystery, love, and fear.
