Scarlet

Scarlet

Scarlet

Scarlet is the long awaited sequel to “Cinder” and is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. It rotates between three characters, the gorgeous Prince Kai, our brave Cinder, and finally, an alluring, beautiful, and daring girl named Scarlet. These three characters create an intense, page turning tale.

Prince Kai is caught in the biggest dilemma of possibly his life. Cinder has escaped, and now the girl he once loved is a wanted criminal. The Lunar Queen is angry with Cinder’s escape and ready for war with Earth.

Meanwhile, Cinder has escaped prison with a wanted fugitive. She is now on the run, trying to figure out a way to defeat the Lunar Queen and hiding the most important and deadly secret she has: she is Princess Selene.

Scarlet’s grandmother disappeared not long ago, with no clues or signs to where she has gone although Scarlet is certain she was kidnapped. A visit from her father, who ran away years ago, and is now crazy, confirms her fears. Scarlet soon finds herself having to rely on a mysterious and handsome street fighter named Wolf. He is very secretive, however, Scarlet finds herself falling for him as they go on a mission to find her grandmother.

A bit from Goodreads:

Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

Did I like Scarlet better than Cinder? Heck yes! Scarlet was much more intense and page turning. I was disappointed that we did not hear more from Cinder, but I immediately fell in love with Scarlet and WOLF! Wolf is such a better character than Prince Kai, at least, I thought so. This book was romantically and mysteriously amazing, and since I love fairytale retellings, this book was great for me. I honestly thought that Cinder’s story in this book was incredibly boring and if it didn’t explain some things, I would’ve skipped it every time to get to Scarlet’s story. She was such a better character than Cinder in this book. It was a disappointment because I was so excited to continue Cinder’s story when I picked up this book, but I felt like it was just a page filler. I am so excited for Cress, because it is the story of Rapunzel (or so rumor has it) and you should know I am obsessed with Tangled and that stuff. Excited for Cress, love Scarlet, and Cinder in Scarlet was a big disappointment. I hope she and Kai get a very romantic reunion in Cress. J
