Book Title: Heist Society
Author: Ally Carter
Genre: Mystery, Thieving
Books like it: I'd Tell You I Love You but Then I'd Have to Kill You, Nancy Drew
My favorite quote:
“I wouldn't mind meeting a dashing thief," the woman's friend whispered. Hale winked at Kat.
Kat raised her eyebrows and whispered, "I'd like to meet one of those, too.”
Brief Synopsis from Goodreads:
When Katarina Bishop was three, her parents took her on a trip to the Louvre…to case it. For her seventh birthday, Katarina and her Uncle Eddie traveled to Austria…to steal the crown jewels. When Kat turned fifteen, she planned a con of her own—scamming her way into the best boarding school in the country, determined to leave the family business behind. Unfortunately, leaving “the life” for a normal life proves harder than she’d expected.
Soon, Kat's friend and former co-conspirator, Hale, appears out of nowhere to bring Kat back into the world she tried so hard to escape. But he has a good reason: a powerful mobster has been robbed of his priceless art collection and wants to retrieve it. Only a master thief could have pulled this job, and Kat's father isn't just on the suspect list, he is the list. Caught between Interpol and a far more deadly enemy, Kat’s dad needs her help.
For Kat, there is only one solution: track down the paintings and steal them back. So what if it's a spectacularly impossible job? She's got two weeks, a teenage crew, and hopefully just enough talent to pull off the biggest heist in her family's history--and, with any luck, steal her life back along the way.
My Summary:
Kat abandoned her family to go to a school. A boarding school halfway across the country, tired of the life she led before. As a thief. One day, she gets framed for something she did not do, and is kicked out of the school.
As it turns out, her best and gorgeous friend Hale framed her.
He needs her back, for a special job. Paintings have been stolen, and Kat's father is the only suspect. The owner of the paintings wants them back within a certain time, or else her father could face a dangerous fate. There is only one problem: Kat's father didn't steal the paintings. Kat must find out who did it and get the paintings back to save her father. The world that Kat has tried so hard to escape has gotten even more dangerous-and deadly.
Pros: Of course I loved this book! Any Ally Carter fans would have to read this book. If you fell in love with Zach in the Gallagher Girls series, you will absolutely love Hale in this book. Mystery? Stealing? An awesome female protagonist? Sounds like my kind of book, alright. This book topped everything Ally Carter has written and I am so excited to read Uncommon Criminals and Perfect Scoundrels!
Cons: The start is kind of confusing, so let me clear part of it up for you: Kat is an ex-thief. Her entire "family" are thieves. She escaped to a boarding school to get rid of that life, but she is kicked out when someone with her (forged) ID card and who looks a heck of a lot like her frames her for stealing the headmasters car.
Review: This book was awesome! Four stars.
