Okay, so I figure I have given you all two months to read this book, and I can scream and rant and rave and sob my eyes out.

WHY DOES THE WORLD HATE ME?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

You all know HOW BADLY I wanted this book to come out, and HOW BADLY I just wanted a happy ending.

DID I GET IT?

No. In fact, I got quite the opposite. A heartless, unfeeling, totally UNFAIR ending that made me sob and cry and want to throw sharp things. I stood in my room for a long time after that, numb with shock.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

Okay, you know what? Even though TRIS DYING was the worst ending I could have possibly imagined, and it was my least favorite part of the book, I had other problems with this book. Major problems.

For one, it was no where near as great as the first book, which will always be my favorite. In some parts, it was better than Insurgent, which was also not very well written.

My second problem: I could not tell whether Tobias and Tris were speaking. Their voices sounded exactly the same to me, and unless Tobias referred to Tris, or Tris referred to him, after a while, I had to rewind and check who was talking. It was very annoying and disappointing that Roth could not give her characters different voices.

My third problem: What was outside the fence. Lots of readers loved this idea and thought it was a stroke of pure genius. Others thought it was stupid and cheesy and super un-cool. In case you haven’t guessed it already, I am one of the latter. I just didn’t really like the fact that they were all experiments to get the perfect system for the human race. It was stupid and unbelievable to me and I think Roth could have come up with a WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better idea. And then there is that part where they tell Tobias he is genetically damaged.

Wait.

What?!!?!?

How dare you!!!!! That is rude to tell one of the best male characters ever that he is damaged. Of course, if you want to break up with Tris, I happen to be single.

No? Okay. Guess I’m not your type.

Moving on.

Nita. What is wrong with this character? I kind of felt like Roth wanted to introduce a love triangle but she wasn’t sure how to add one, so it just fell flat. Like, she thought: What do I do with this character? Her relationship with Tobias just isn’t working. I know! I will make her a traitor! Bibbidy bobbidy bingo! Oh wait…. just kidding. She isn’t a traitor anymore.

Me: I am so confused.

Roth: Just go with it.

Me: But- but-

Roth: Shhh. Don’t overthink things.

And then at the very end: Roth making me think that everything was going to be fine, and Tris would be an awesome hero.

What.

Freaking.

Cruelty.

Tris makes it all the way through the death serum, presses the button… and YES!!! FINALLY A VICTORY!!!! Right?

Wrong.

FYI: She is dead. News flash: Her killer gets his memory erased and THEY LET HIM LIVE. AND PRETEND LIKE HE DIDN’T JUST KILL THEIR BEST FRIEND. My other problem with the ending is this: Caleb is the traitor. He betrayed his parents, Tris, and everyone he loved. Why not let him redeem himself? Then we would feel like he was a good person again. Instead, Tris dies for him and he ends up being a character that I really hate.

I just thought that this book had a LOT of plot holes. Sure, Roth is good at developing her characters and bringing emotion- I will give her that. But she really, really, sucks at building a world. There were SO many questions I had that went unanswered. Is this just happening in the United States? If it is, why aren’t other countries coming to help or stop it?  Why had the GDs not rebelled and put a stop to this WAAAAY before Tris was born? It just does not make sense.

    And another thing: With Tris’s death, I just felt that David killed her so easily. He was in a wheelchair for crying out loud, and had probably never fired a gun in his life. How could he get lucky and hit her twice in fatal spots? How could he possibly know what she planned to do? And wasn’t she one of his precious GPs? Why would he want to kill her?

Conclusions:

Sorry that this review was so short, and that I only focused on what I hated. I feel like Divergent was perfect, and the other two were just crap. The ending made no sense to me. I felt like Roth just wanted a really shocking ending so she decided to kill Tris. She shot herself in the foot with this because now I know that she is an author that WILL kill her main character, and I don’t want to read books like that. This book had great parts, but most of it just sucked. I loved Divergent and will hold it in my heart forever, but I am never re-reading Insurgent or Allegiant ever again.
